PENDING 2010 Registration

MEKAYLA RICHARDSON
SEEDLING 06-C-12
ROTHBAUER 2010

NAME PENDING

This was a cross that Charmaine suggested. We almost didn't get to see it. I had mistakenly placed the seeds up for sale on the Lilly Auction and they had sold before I realized the mistake, Charmaine was not happy. To our good fortune the buyer never completed the transaction, this is the only sale we have ever had that happen on.

It is being named for a special young lady Who has always loved flowers. One spring Charmaine had spent all day planting the first spring flowers, she was so proud. Mekayla and one of her little friends were outside, when we checked they had a whole bucket of flowers they had picked. Luckly being newly planted they had just pulled up the whole plant. When she was very young she would climb up beside me in my recliner to watch television. Some of her favorite shows to watch were about Dinosaurs, If I remember correctly her first word was Disaur. Her mother still hasn't forgiven me for that. All the teeth on this flower kind of remind me of a Dinosaur. Happy Birthday Mekayla.

Our sedling 06-C-12 Forbidden Fantasy x Light Years Away, An Evergreen Tetraploid, scape height 28", bloom 5 1/2", fragrant, 3 way branching with 18 buds per scape. MULTIPLE RE-BLOOMS, the 1st blooms are late April and the last blooms were in September, a nice LONG bloom season. This is the kind of flower I am looking for.

I love this flower. A violet rose with a gold and lavender blue double edge covered with Sharks Teeth. A green and gold throat with a light lavender blue eye. White mid ribs with the petals and sepals slightly recurved, we have occassionaly gotten polymerous blooms from it. It is a reluctant parent but the seedlings we have seen from it have been worth the trouble.

Originaly hybridized in region 2 (central Indiana) it should be suitable for both northern and southern gardens.

ALISYANA GARCIA
ROTHBAUER 2009

ALISYANA GARCIA

I named this flower for our youngest granddaughter, Alisyana, who is 3 years old. I have used a picture of this flower as the background on our computer for some time and everytime Alisyana has seen it she comments on how pretty it is. So now our adorable little angel is truly a beautiful flower.
Our sedling 6A-10 (Seal of Approval x Brookwood Gilt Edge)a Cedarthorn Gardens seedling X Indy Fling, height 25", bloom 5", A bud builder so despite having only 2 way branching it has produced up to 24 buds per scape giving it a very long bloom season. A very extended bloom, open by 5 AM and still open at 11:30 PM. Very fragrant, dormant diploid, pod and pollen fertile. A pink cream over a green throat with a double edge of rose and gold. A good increase in addition to the fans dividing almost every scape will have a prolif which will be well developed since it has such a long bloom season. Another reason I registered this flower was that during our rust outbreak clumps all around this one were covered in rust but this one showed no signs of rust at all. Hybridized in region 2 (central Indiana) it is suitable for both northern and southern gardens.

2004 Our First Registered Cultivar

FRANK ROTHBAUER

We named this flower in honor of my father who passed away about the same time this seedling was sprouting. I don't think dad ever grew Daylilies but he had a love of flowers in general. I can think of no better way to honor his memory than to name a flower after him.

It is my habit during bloom season to go out each morning before leaving for work to see what new blooms we might have. I had been watching this seedling for several days as it prepared to bloom for the first time. Somehow I knew this one would be special so you can imagine my reaction when it finally bloomed. I don't think Charmaine was too thrilled about me waking her up to tell her about it.

A beautiful purple with a dark black purple eye zone and a very light lavender edge, what a contrast. The edge seems to intensify as the days get warmer as the image of the single bloom shows. The Parentage is Siloam Tiny Tim x Indian Giver. A Dormant Diploid with 4" blooms on 24" scapes with 3 way branching with Y's on all branches. Bud count was 28, often with 2 or 3 blooms open at once, should be a nice show in a clump. the only drawback is that it does not appear to be pollen fertile.Started the year with 11 fans divided into 3 clumps plus a single fan. Each clump increased to 10-12 fans but once again the single fan increased to 10 fans on it's own.

The first babies bloomed in 2005 and while we didn't get a seedling that stood out there were other qualities in all of them that did. If you like purples and lavenders then you need this one. Every baby that bloomed was a shade of purple or lavender. Most of the babies had the dark eye and light edge. Also it passes on the fast increase. This area in the seedling bed looked like grass they increased so rapidly. It passses all of the qualities which we selected it for onto it's babies.

Frank Rothbauer was successfully introduced in the spring of 2005. It now has a home in gardens from Maine to Washington and Michigan to Louisiana, hopefully it will be seen and enjoyed by many visitors to our garden.

"We should have Division of all our intros available for spring 2010 shipment. Check the LILY AUCTION or drop us an e-mail for info on availability."

A NOTE ABOUT OUR PHOTOS

All of our photos are taken with a digital camera set for natural colors and the only thing we use a photo editor for is to crop and re-size them. If you like the colors in one of our photos you can be assured that is what you will get.
